Mumbai, April 26 — With only a few days to go before his TV debut with Satyamev Jayate, Aamir Khan is a busy man. And that explains his absence from the recently held premiere of Hollywood superhero flick The Avengers in the city. Organised by UTV Motion Pictures, which is marketing and distributing the film in India, the event was attended by eminent names from the film industry.

However, Aamir will watch the film with his family at a special screening that will be organised by the distributers this weekend.

“He will be busy shooting for Satyamev Jayate until April 27, so the screening will be held on April 28 or April 29, depending upon his availability,” says a source from the distributing company. Shikha Kapur, senior vice president of UTV Motion Pictures confirmed the plan, “There are also a couple of very special friends who could not make it because of prior commitments. We are happy to hold a special screening for them and their families,” she says.

The Tuesday premiere was attended by filmmakers Ashutosh Gowariker, Abhinay Deo, Sajid Khan, Nikhil Advani and Sudhir Mishra. Actors Neha Dhupia, Ranveer Shorey and SaraJane Dias, Neha were also spotted at the do.

The Avengers, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, brings together various iconic characters like Iron Man, Captain America and Nick Fury, played by actors Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans and Samuel L Jackson, respectively. The film will hit theatres in India on April 27.

International formats have been ruling TV shows of late, from Kaun Banega Crorepati via Indian Idol and Sach Ka Saamna to Bigg Boss. Now one more international format leaps on to the bandwagon, though this is somewhat different. All Is Well (AIW), that goes on air on Colors this Sunday, is an interactive chat show focused on health. The programme features Los Angeles-based Dr Sonu Ahluwalia demystifying ailments and lifestyle-related diseases, offering simple solutions and explanations to queries.

The show will also feature celebrities talking about their ailments and sharing their experiences.“The endeavour is to reach out to the masses,” says Dr Ahluwalia, the chief of orthopedic surgery at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles. “In the last three years, I’ve been wanting to do more than just my job. In the show, we have balanced dry medical preachy talk with interesting and personal stories of real life experiences to inspire people. For instance, I hope people learn the skills they’ll need for medical emergencies through AIW.”

Catering to all age groups, the show will specially focus on health issues relevant to Indian audiences. Though new to television, Ahluwalia is confident of facing the camera. Interestingly, AIW’s show timing will clash with Aamir Khan’s Satyamev Jayate which is on Star Plus. The latter is an hour-and-a-half long show that will air at 11 am while AIW, going on air at 12 noon, may face tough competition for the half-an-hour slot between 12 and 12.30pm.

Ask Ahluwalia if he’s worried about the TRPs of his show and he laughingly replies, “I think he (Aamir) has to worry a lot!” More seriously, he adds, “I think the time slot is perfect as no one is rushing to work or returning home tired. I am confident that once people watch the show, they will become regular viewers.”

Ahluwalia’s celebrity clientele includes Hollywood biggies such as Brad Pitt, Owen Wilson, Matthew Perry, Mel Brooks, Shakira and Tiger Woods. He has also treated Hrithik Roshan and Sunny Deol among others — which is why his celebrity friends from India will be part of the show.

But Ahluwalia claims his goal in the show was to not have a celebrity element. “The show promotes healthy living and I don’t want the audience to be distracted by celebrities.” And according to him, only one ‘real’ celebrity came on the show. “That’s Salman Khan, who is a friend. And he brought a lot of fun to it.”

AIW’s celebrity list includes Hrithik Roshan’s elder sister Sunaina who will talk about surviving cervical cancer, and tennis champion Sania Mirza, who will discuss her wrist and knee injuries.

Mumbai: Aamir Khan has proved that he is indeed a man of words. The perfectionist made his presence felt at a humble wedding ceremony in Varanasi to keep up his commitment.

Rajeev, the groom, couldn’t believe his eyes as he could never in his dreams expect a star like Aamir to grace his wedding. It was nothing less a miracle of sorts for the son of auto-rickshaw driver Ramlakhan Paswan, whom Aamir had met in December 2009.

A daily reported that Ramlakhan, who also known as Nathuni, had helped Aamir locate the house of his maternal grandmother. As a token of thanks, Aamir later sent him air-tickets for Mumbai to attend the premiere of ‘3 Idiots’.

“Initially, Aamir had assured to send his blessings through a video CD, but recently he confirmed that he would be attending the marriage function in person,” Nathuni told a daily.

The Paswan family was certainly on cloud nine after hearing the news of Aamir’s arrival.

For those not in the know, Ram won a bronze and a silver lion at Cannes in 2006 for a commercial. His debut feature film, ‘Lets Talk’, premiered at the Locarno Film Festival.

Ram is directing the theme song for the TV show though its still not clear as to who will be directing it. Says a source, “Shooting for the video of the theme song began in Srinagar.Then, the unit went to Delhi and subsequently, they went to Jodhpur. The next stop was Gangtok. On Thursday morning, Aamir is supposed to leave for Vadodara which is the last destination for the shoot. Ram will be returning to Mumbai on February 21.”

“On Tuesday morning, Aamir went to Gangtoks Rumtek. On Wednesday, Aamir visited various locations in and around Gangtok,” the source adds.

Music for this programme, which is being described as a bold non-fiction show that has never been attempted before on Indian television, has been composed by Ram Sampath who has previously worked with Aamir in ‘Delhi Belly’.

“Ram has composed the theme song that is now being shot. Shooting for the programme had begun on the sets in Mumbai. But a fire broke out. Thankfully, no one was injured.Things are back on track now and shooting is supposed to resume soon,” says the source.

Meanwhile, there was a buzz that Aamir had gone for a short visit to north Bengal as well during his Sikkim tour.

Says Dr Saumitra Mohan, the district magistrate and collector of Darjeeling, “I too have heard that Aamir Khan is supposed to come to Darjeeeling. But I dont have any official intimation on that. We are trying to promote Darjeeling as a shooting destination and would love to welcome him if he wants to shoot here. Incidentally, we have conceived a directors meet in Darjeeling. Filmmakers from Tollywood and Bollywood will be invited to come down for this event.The dates for this meet hasnt been finalized as yet.”
